This eBook will tell you how to become a yoga teacher … without spending ANY money on teacher training
Do you love yoga? Are you inspired by how great yoga makes you feel? Do you want to share your passion with others by becoming a yoga teacher?
BUT . . . Have you researched yoga teacher training courses only to find out they cost anywhere from $1,000 to $3,000 or more???
I know how you feel. I have been there. I was once at a crossroads, where I was unsure what I really wanted to do with my life. I had always pursued paths that spoke to my creative and spiritual side – acting, writing, and teaching. But I was having trouble finding a career that integrated these passions AND paid the bills.
Then I took a yoga class and fell in love. I fell in love with the practice, the lifestyle, the beautiful Sanskrit, the way my body felt strong and flexible, the way my emotions felt balanced, and the way my mind was calm and at ease during and after practice. And I fell in love with my teachers. Not literally! And not just with one teacher, but with the whole profession. I wondered how these bright, fit, calm, smart, articulate, and passionate people became the great teachers who shared their practice with me and with rooms full of other seeking souls. So I began to find out.
I spent years in yoga classes, reading books on yoga, subscribing to Yoga Journal and other yoga publications, attending workshops, teaching classes, and EVENTUALLY going to teacher training. Yes! I started teaching yoga well before ever attending a teacher training course. AND SO CAN YOU!
My teacher training course was only one in an extensive series of events and experiences that prepared me to become a competent and passionate yoga teacher. There are so many other factors besides teacher training, certification, or registration with Yoga Alliance, that determine whether one is qualified to teach yoga, or even whether they will get jobs teaching yoga.
I am here to share with you everything you need to know to become a great yoga teacher – without spending big bucks on teacher training!
Maybe you are unemployed, or a student, looking toward graduation with dread in this horrific job market.
Or you’re in a job you don’t love, and your favorite time of day is your yoga class.
Are you looking for a career that allows you to be who you truly are, and to share your talents, passions, and wisdom with the world in a big way? There is no doubt about it – yoga changes lives, and for yoga to change lives, we need passionate, knowledgeable, capable yoga teachers. And you can be one of them!
Health and Wellness is an industry that survives every recession. Whether people are unemployed, broke, desperate, you name it — gyms, spas, health clubs and yoga studios are packing it in! Whether people are coming for stress relief, physical fitness, spiritual development, or just to smell the incense, they are doing yoga. And there is no reason why you should not be their teacher.
From the first yoga class I ever attended, I thought to myself, “I could do that! I would be a great yoga teacher.” But I wondered, “How did my teacher become so knowledgeable – about postures, anatomy, yoga philosophy, and the Sanskrit?” I have spent the past 12 years passionately pursuing yoga workshops and teacher trainings; teaching yoga in studios, gyms, private homes, and on international retreats; and owning and running a busy yoga studio.
I KNOW what it takes to be a great yoga teacher. And I am here to tell you that it is not about spending thousands of dollars on teacher training – especially if you do not, like many yogis, have even hundreds of dollars to spend!
Not to mention, there are teacher training course out there where you can earn a “certificate” in a weekend, or over 3 weekends, and still not know the first thing about teaching a powerful, safe, inspiring, authentic yoga class. Fitness instructors who know nothing about yoga and its true benefits can attend a one-day training, and add yoga to their resume. You don’t want to be one of the masses, teaching watered-down “gym yoga” do you? You want to inspire your students, help them heal from and prevent injuries, assist them in learning to breathe and meditate, and be a catalyst for the kind of change in their lives that you have experienced from your yoga practice.
And you can! In my e-book How to Become a Great Yoga Teacher Without Spending a Dime on Teacher Training, for less than the cost of a drop-in class at an urban yoga studio, I will share with you:
- EXACTLY what you need to do to become a great yoga teacher
- Which postures are important to know and how to teach them effectively
- Yogic breathing
- Essential yoga history and philosophy
- How to sequence yoga postures
- How to cultivate ambience through music and lighting
- How to adjust and correct students safely and effectively

What else will you get out of reading How to Become a Great Yoga Teacher??
You will feel inspired, fulfilled, relieved, and motivated to go after that dream, knowing you are on the path to teaching, sharing, healing, and helping others through your love of yoga — all without spending a dime on teacher training!
And just think, if you land even one teaching job due to the information in this book, your return on investment could be up to 300% from that first class alone.
Aside from my family and my personal yoga practice, the teaching of yoga has been my greatest love and my deepest passion. There is nothing more fulfilling than having a student approach me after class and share an anecdote about how something in that class, or from a past class, has changed their life for the better. Whether it helps ease a physical pain, heal an injury, or help someone deal with a challenging life or relationship issue, yoga helps people feel better!
Now, admittedly, there have been some questions in the media lately about yoga’s safety and a lot of talk about the potential for injury. Inexperienced and aggressive teaching has been called to task and taken some of the blame and criticism. So you may be wondering if it is really possible to become a safe and effective teacher without actually attending a teacher training course. And you may doubt that you’ll be able to land teaching jobs if you don’t have a “certification” or if you don’t register with the Yoga Alliance. Or maybe you are concerned that you won’t have a group of fellow trainees to practice your teaching skills with.
These are valid concerns, and they prove that you are thinking and evaluating whether this path is right for you, and well you should be! I would like to address your concerns and assure you that what you will learn in my book will ease your mind and give you the skills, tools, knowledge, and most of all the confidence to go after your dream of becoming an awesome yoga teacher!
Over the past 12 years I have spent countless hours and probably close to $20,000 on yoga classes, workshops, trainings, memberships, retreats, books, and information – culminating in a body of wisdom, experience, and knowledge about teaching yoga that I would love to share with you. I encourage you to follow your dream. Ignite your passion for yoga and for serving others through teaching. Boldly take your future into your own hands and go for it!
Go confidently in the direction of your dreams. Live the life you have imagined.
– Henry David Thoreau
If there is one thing I have learned in my years of practicing and teaching yoga it is this: nothing that is worth doing is EASY – it may take work. But many things are SIMPLE. And becoming a yoga teacher is one of them. If you follow some very straightforward steps that I lay out for you in my book, apply yourself, and believe in yourself, YOU WILL SUCCEED!Check out what some readers are saying: Mara shows you that while there are no shortcuts to becoming a great yoga teacher, there are many ways to scale the mountain. A detailed road map written by a gifted teacher, this book is a must-read for anyone who’s finally ready to let loose their inner yoga teacher — without shelling out big bucks on formal teacher training. – Aimee E. Teaching is a gift, that when molded, nurtured, guided will touch more lives than I ever will as a Multiple Sclerosis Certified Clinical Specialist PA. Mara through her years as an owner of Inspire has brought together more students of yoga than she will ever realize and has that gift. So much of what I have learned from Mara is shared with my patients daily, from breath work, to “Eastern calisthenics” or yoga stretches. Her philosophy of “Becoming a Great Yoga teacher without spending a Dime” reminds me of the greats such as Jois, Iyengar, Yogananda, they had nothing, not even a rupee when they studied. It was their commitment to their teacher, mentor, guide that developed their spiritual wealth and skills as a teacher. Essentially you don’t need “rupees” you need commitment, mentorship, fellowship, and most of all experience. This book is simple, direct, and highlights the important aspects of yoga that every yoga teacher must realize before standing in front of a group of students. If you’re thinking of teaching, I highly recommend this read. It’s quick, easy, and to the point. FIVE STARS! – Amy D.
